Jeff Taylor, Partner and Head of Corporate Services Reflects on 2009

“2009 was a undoubtedly a  year of uncertainty and difficult trading conditions for many of our business clients. Nevertheless we found ourselves advising on a significant number of corporate acquisitions and disposals and also a successful public share offer for a listed company.

We experienced a smaller number of business start up enquiries but became involved in several distressed business sales and acquisitions, and general insolvency advice. We continued to experience reasonable levels of what we might regard as ‘normal’ commercial instructions: contract drafting and disputes, terms of business reviews, group restructuring and succession planning, and shareholder agreements and disputes.

Perhaps not surprisingly our employment specialists advised on a large number of employment law matters, in particular redundancies and unfair dismissal claims. As was of course commonplace our commercial property workflow was overall reduced but we are seeing increased activity levels and are optimistic for the property market in 2010.

Our charity law work has been steady including advice on the formation of a new charitable company and the closing of an educational charity

All in all 2009 was a busy year for the Hortons Corporate Servicves team.  I have been particularly delighted by the client feeback we have received which is testament to the hard work and professionalism of the Hortons team".
